But the NUMBER ONE REASON why Christmas SHOULD BE OUR FAVORITE TIME OF THE YEAR is because of the reality that GOD BECAME FLESH AND DWELT AMONG MANKIND, AND WENT TO THE CROSS TO PURCHASE OUR REDEMPTION SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM. And yet, many times that reality gets LOST in the hustle and bustle of the season. That is why during our CHRISTMAS SERIES this year we have been observing how Jesus Christ is revealed in the four Gospels.

INTRO: During the Christmas Season, a great focus is placed upon JESUS CHRIST’S BIRTH, and RIGHTLY SO. We think of how He was born and placed in the MANGER. We think of how His Birth was announced to the SHEPHERDS. We think of how the MAGI visited and worshipped Him with precious gifts. But often, we FAIL TO REALIZE that FOUR GREAT BOOKS OF THE BIBLE (THE GOSPELS OF MATTHEW, MARK, LUKE, AND JOHN) present Jesus Christ precisely the way GOD WANTS US TO SEE HIM in order that we will HONOR AND SERVE HIM properly. Last week, we noted that in the GOSPEL OF MATTHEW, Jesus is revealed as THE KING OF THE JEWS. Today, we shall note that in the GOSPEL OF MARK, Jesus is revealed as the SERVANT OF GOD AND MANKIND. Certainly, we SHOULD REJOICE in the SERVITUDE OF CHRIST because it was such an attitude that DROVE JESUS CHRIST TO THE CROSS TO PROVIDE REDEMPTION FOR ALL OF MANKIND.

INTRO: The Christmas Season is truly a BLESSED TIME FOR CHRISTIANS as it affords us the opportunity to focus on the BEAUTIFUL REALITY OF THE INCARNATION OF JESUS CHRIST INTO THE WORLD. Therefore, most of the time we reflect upon HIS BIRTH IN THE CAVE OR SHED, AND THE FACT THAT MARY AND JOSEPH LAID HIM IN THE MANGER where the shepherds visited Him upon the announcement of HIS BIRTH. We all know the account of Christ’s incarnation rather well and it is a good thing to review it yearly. BUT THERE IS A LOT MORE we should consider about Jesus Christ during the Christmas Season that will give us a GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND APPRECIATION OF HIM! This year our CHRISTMAS THEME IS: “DOWN FROM HIS GLORY.” And a part of understanding that theme is knowing HOW JESUS IS REVEALED IN THE FOUR GOSPELS. So, during the month of December, we are going to see how the HOLY SPIRIT led the GOSPEL WRITERS to reveal Jesus Christ in EACH ONE OF THE GOSPELS. The intent of this study is to give us all a GREATER APPRECIATION FOR WHO JESUS CHRIST IS AND WHAT HE WILL DO THROUGHOUT ALL OF ETERNITY.

INTRO: Where were you on September 11, 2001? That was the day when the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA was attacked by foreign enemies who hate us. Most of us can remember very clearly where we were and what we were doing on that terrible day when nearly 3000 of out citizens were killed and many injured…Shortly after 9/11/01 leaders of our government came to realize that we needed to examine and enhance our DEFENSE SYSTEM to prevent our nation from being attacked in such a surprising and terrible way again. Consequently, THE HOMELAND SECURITY DIVI11ON OF OUR GOVERNMENT WAS ESTABLIASHED, and former PA Governor Tom Ridge became the first director. We can only hope that we have a STRONG DEFENSE SYSTEM THAT WILL PREVENT ANOTHER 9/11. Today as we think back 21 years let us consider what it takes to PROTECT AMERICA.

INTRO: For those of us who live in America, we HONESTLY MUST SAY that we have INHERITED A GREAT NATION. 
In the history of the world there has never been a nation like the U.S.A. and that is because GOD IN ETERNITY 
PAST, DETERMINED WHO HE WOULD RAISE UP TO “DISCOVER” THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE, TO EXPLORE THE 
TWO GREAT CONTINENTS OF THE HEMISPHERE, AND TO FOUND THE NATIONS ON THE TWO GREAT CONTINENTS 
OF THE HEMISPHERE. (23 ON NORTH AMERICA AND 14 ON SOUTH AMERICA). Regarding the U.S.A., God RAISED 
UP those seeking for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM to come to these shores as early as the 1500’s followed by the 
PURITANS, THE PILGRIMS, and others, who, ever since, were and are looking for the FREEDOM AMERICA HAS TO 
OFFER. In 1776 God raised up 56 MEN to sign the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE, who, UNDER GOD, laid the 
foundation for the GREATEST NATION IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. America quickly rose up BY GOD’S GRACE. 
BUT within 100 years of her founding, through DARWINIAN SECULARISM, THE WEAKENING OF THE PULPIT, THE 
COMPROMISE OF THE CHURCH, AND THE WORLDLINESS OF THE CHRISTIAN, she began to turn away from God 
WHO BROUGHT HER INTO EXISTENCE. We have INHERITED A GREAT NATION, but NOW, FOR SUCH A TIME AS 
THIS, GOD HAS PLACED YOU AND ME ON THIS CONTINENT AND IN THIS NATION TO REVIVE AMERICA AND TO 
PASS IT ON TO THE GENERATIONS TO FOLLOW UNTIL CHRIST RETURNS.

INTRO: It is hard to believe that we have come to another FATHER'S DAY, but the fact is true, THAT WE HAVE. On this FATHER'S DAY we truly do want to HONOR ALL FATHERS…particularly those who know and love the Lord. HOW CAN WE HONOR OUR FATHERS? 1) Through Obedience. 2) Through Respect. 3) Through Prayer, 4) Through Physical Care. 5) Through Spiritual Encouragement. 6) Through Financial Support. BUT IN TODAY’S MESSAGE, I believe the Lord has led us to focus on the fact that due to the circumstances of the times in which we live, WE NEED MEN OF A UNIQUE QUALITY AND CHARACTER who Understand the Times, Know what to do in these Times, and then will Lead others properly in these Times. In doing so, LET’S GO BACK ABOUT 3000 YEARS to when DAVID began to reign over Israel and learn from the SONS OF ISSACHAR about the QUALITY AND CHARACTER MEN SHOULD DEVELOP for SUCH A TIME AS THIS!

1 THESSALONIANS 2:13

INTRO: In our last study from 1 Thessalonians, we focused on CHAPTER 2 and VERSE 13 that speaks of the 
effectual working of the WORD OF GOD upon the lives of those who BELIEVE. You may recall that in that 
study we learned three things:
 1) THE SCRIPTURE IS THE WORD OF GOD, NOT THE WORD OF MEN
 2) THE SCRIPTURE IS THE TRUTH OF GOD, AND IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH
 3) THE SCRIPTURE IS THE OPERATION OF GOD, ACTIVELY ENERGIZING BELIEVERS
Today we are going to return to 1 Thessalonians 2:13 so as to focus on ONE SMALL WORD THAT BRINGS 
ONE HUGE EFFECT upon those who practice it. It is the very last word of the verse…” BELIEVE.” The title 
of the message today is “BELIEVING IS SEEING.” The point of the message is BELIEF IN THE RIGHT THING 
ALWAYS RESULTS IN SEEING THE DIVINE THING. In other words, WHEN WE TRULY BELIEVE PROPERLY, WE 
WILL TRULY SEE THE EFFECTUAL WORKING OF GOD IN OUR LIVES.
NOTE: “BELIEVE” in the verse is “PISTEUO” in the Greek which means “TO COMMIT OR TO HAVE FULL 
CONFIDENCE IN.”
A REMINDER: The Bible DOES NOT JUST CONTAIN the Word of God…The Bible IS the Word of God. (Isaiah 
55:11; Jeremiah 15:16; John 17:17; 1 Peter 1:23-25)

INTRO: Often during PATRIOTIC SERVICES we sing the song “AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL.” I love that song as it speaks of the GREAT QUALITIES of our nation FROM the geographical beauty it has, TO the freedoms we have, TO the hero’s who died for those freedoms, FOR the patriotism many hold and to the blessings God has poured out upon the nation. GOD HAS SHED HIS GRACE ON AMERICA! But in recent weeks we have come FACE TO FACE with the reality that AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL IS BECOMING AMERICA THE SORROWFUL. Now even though that could apply to a number of things, the mass shootings we have experienced recently are TRULY SORROWFUL.

2) Pastor, I get so much out of the Bible I never want to put it down.
WHY IS THERE SUCH A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE’S RESPONSES WHO CLAIM TO KNOW THE LORD REGARDING WHAT THEY GET FROM THE SCRIPTURE?
● Perhaps one is NOT REALLY SAVED
● Perhaps one is NOT REALLY INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM GOD
● Perhaps one DOES NOT REALLY BELIEVE THE WORD OF GOD
● Perhaps one is SAVED AND WANTS TO HEAR FROM GOD
BUT WHAT ABOUT YOU? WHAT DO YOU GET FROM THE BIBLE DAILY? Today we are going to study from 1 Thessalonians HOW EFFECTIVE THE WORD OF GOD IS in the lives of those who TRULY BELIEVE IT.

“ENTRUSTED WITH THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST”
1 THESSALONIANS 2:1-12
TEXT: VERSE 4

INTRO: One of the TREMENDOUS HONORS we as BELIEVERS in CHRIST have is the PRIVILEGE of SERVING HIM ON A REGULAR BASIS. Each Christian is a MINISTER OF GOD and has a SPIRITUAL GIFT, WHICH IS A GOD-GIVEN ABILITY TO SERVE THE LORD. But it is important that WE ALL SERVE THE LORD EFFECTIVELY. The passage of scripture we will look at today gives some great principles in SERVING THE LORD EFFECTIVELY based upon the fact that we are ENTRUSTED WITH THE GOSPEL.
CONTEXT: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-12 is Paul’s testimony of his ministry in Thessalonica along with the team of Silas and Timothy. In these verses are QUALITIES that EVERY CHRISTIAN SHOULD HAVE IN THEIR MINISTRY. Because Paul had these qualities in his ministry, it was effective (Vs. 1). When we have these qualities in our ministries, we will be effective as well!

“A LOOK AT THE GODLY WOMAN”
1 TIMOTHY 5:1-16

INTRO: We are living in a time when it seems that many people are confused over so many things in society, including the 
proper gender of a person, the difference between a man and a woman and even if a man can give birth to a child. 
Obviously, this is because of the fact that SOCIETY WITHOUT A BIBLICAL WORLD VIEW, not only has no concept of the 
proper understanding of gender as God has designed it, but REJECTS gender as God has designed it. As a part of rejecting 
God’s design for gender, there are those who confuse and mix up the actions, attitudes and activities that define a male 
and a female. Even within the realm of Christianity, you may find those who would not be able to DEFINE A GODLY MAN 
AND A GODLY WOMAN. So on this MOTHER’S DAY, let’s allow the WORD OF GOD TO SPEAK OF ITSELF and give us insight 
on THE GODLY WOMAN from GOD’S PERSPECTIVE.
OBSERVATION: In our text Paul is teaching how we should HONOR elderly men, women, and widows. In doing so, he gives 
at least 13 CLEAR DESCRIPTIONS OF THE GODLY WOMAN.
NOTE: 1 Timothy is the PROVERBS 31 of the New Testament, thus describing the BIBLICAL VIRTUOUS WOMAN.

INTRO: In studying the Word of God we can clearly see many GREAT QUALITIES OF CHRISTIANITY. And 
everyone that CLAIMS TO BE A CHRISTIAN would do well to COMPARE WHAT THEY BELIEVE A CHRISTIAN 
IS, TO WHAT THE WORD OF GOD DESCRIBES A TRUE CHRISTIAN TO BE. This is important because there 
are FOUR TYPES OF CHRISTIANS and ONLY ONE OF THEM IS BIBLICALLY CORRECT:
1) The Traditional Christian: Because of Family Background.
2) The Cultural Christian: Because of not being of another “Religion.”
3) The Religious Christian: Because of acting out Christian Rituals.
4) The Biblical Christian: Because of being Born Again.
SO, WHAT KIND OF A CHRISTIAN ARE YOU?

“A COMMENDATION OF GREAT THANKS”
I THESSALONIANS 1:1-10

INTRO: “IS GOD THANKFUL FOR YOU TODAY?” Now you may respond to that question by asking “HOW DO I KNOW IF GOD IS THANKFUL FOR ME?” That is a fair question, but the answer IS NOT UNKNOWABLE. Today, right where we are, WE CAN KNOW IF GOD IS THANKFUL FOR US BY THE WAY WE ARE RESPONDING TO HIS WORD AND HIS WILL…ANOTHER WAY we can know IF GOD IS THANKFUL FOR US TODAY is by the way the Apostle Paul wrote to the CHRISTIANS AT THESSALONICA and by applying to OUR LIFE what he said TO THEM. In the passage before us, we can see clearly that PAUL GAVE A COMMENDATION OF GREAT THANKS to the Thessalonian Christians and when we OBSERVE why He gave the COMMENDATION, we can then determine: 1) IF PAUL WOULD BE THANKFUL FOR US, and more significantly 2) If GOD WOULD BE THANKFUL FOR US!
OBSERVATION: The Church at Thessalonica was a MODEL CHURCH, and no doubt was THE ONE CHURCH for which Paul and the other missionary/evangelists were the MOST THANKFUL of all they were involved with in their ministry:
● 1 Thessalonians 1:2 and 2:13
● 2 Thessalonians 1:3 and 2:13

“THE UNPARALLELED RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST”
ACTS 2:22-24

INTRO: As we gather here today to HONOR GOD THROUGH THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, there are certain matters that we should take into consideration from which we see in our text:
1) Vs. 22: During Christ’s ministry on earth, God validated Jesus as the Messiah through a variety of supernatural means and works. (Cp. John 21:30,31; 21:25)
2) Vs. 23a: From Eternity Past, God PREDETERMINED that Jesus would die an ATONING DEATH as a part of HIS PRE-ORDAINED PLAN. (Cp. Revelation 13:8)
3) Vs. 23b: That the CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST was PREDETERMINED BY GOD does not ABSOLVE THE GUILT of those who caused it.
4) Vs. 24: Because of GOD’S DIVINE POWER, PROMISE AND PURPOSE, death COULD NOT keep Jesus in the grave.

MATTHEW 21:1-11

INTRO: Today is PALM SUNDAY when Christians all around the world will be focusing on the TRIUMPHAL ENTRY OF JESUS INTO JERUSALEM WHEN HE PRESENTED HIMSELF AS THE KING OF KINGS, WHICH HE TRULY IS. As Christ entered the City, many along the road PRAISED AND HONORED HIM. Sadly, for the Jewish Nation, they REJECTED JESUS as their King and five days later the PRAISE OF THE PEOPLE turned into CURSING as the CRIED OUT TO CRUCIFY HIM. Consider some facts about the TRIUMPHAL ENTRY OF CHRIST.
● The Triumphal Entry is recorded in ALL FOUR GOSPELS.
● The Triumphal Entry took place on March 9, 30 AD.
● The Triumphal Entry took place between Bethpage and Jerusalem over the Mount of Olives, through the Garden of Gethsemane, through the Kidron Valley and through the Eastern Gate of Jerusalem.
● The Triumphal Entry began the LAST WEEK of Christ’s ministry on Earth before His CRUCIFIXION when Jesus VERY DELIBERATELY PRESENTED HIMSELF TO THE JEWS AS THEIR KING!

INTRO: As we approach the SEASON OF THE CRUCIFIXION AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST, I believe it is appropriate for us to focus on the WORK OF CHRIST ON THE CROSS to get the THOUGHT PROCESS OF OUR MIND in gear for this tremendous season of the year. All too often we rush into and out of this season without pausing to mediate upon what the events surrounding the cross have to do with the FORGIVENESS OF OUR SIN AND ETERNAL LIFE due to the REDEMPTIVE WORK OF CHRIST ON OUR BEHALF. So today, we shall study from MATTHEW 16:13-27 WHY CHRIST HAD TO GO TO JERUSALEM. That may seem to be an insignificant statement, but without HIM GOING TO JERUSALEM, WE WOULD HAVE NO SALVATION. So, it is a VERY SIGNIFICANT STATEMENT TO CONSIDER.

ROMANS 10:13-17

INTRO: Romans 10:13-17 is one of the most direct admonitions in scripture for each Christian to be regularly involved in SPREADING THE GOSPEL.
CONTEXT: Paul is in the middle of three chapters teaching about Israel and the ultimate future of the nation. He is talking about his desire to see them come to Christ. In the process of doing so, he gives a very clear challenge for Christian believers to be involved in PREACHING THE GOSPEL. His message was applicable for Christians evangelizing the Jews in his time, and it is applicable for us in evangelizing all people…both Jew and Gentile today. (Cp. Romans 1:16)

“BIBLICAL LIVING IN A SPIRITUALLY DECAYED WORLD”
ROMANS 13:11-14

INTRO: Would you agree with me that THE WORLD IN WHICH WE LIVE IS A SPIRITUAL AND MORAL MESS?
Indeed, it is, and it has always been SPIRITUALLY AND MORALLY DEPRAVED. But as we look around and
as we draw closer to the RETURN OF CHRIST, THE DEPRAVITY OF THE WORLD IS BECOMING MORE AND
MORE EVIDENT!
NOTE: In talking about the WORLD, I am not speaking of the GLOBE upon which we live. But rather, I am
speaking of THAT SYSTEM THAT IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF SATAN, MADE UP OF SINFUL HUMANITY,
WHICH IS DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED TO GOD IN EVERY WAY. TWO SPECIFIC CONCEPTS TO CONSIDER:
● The World System is TOTALLY DEPRAVED – 1 John 5:19
● The Humanity of the World is FULLY EVIL – Ecclesiastes 9:3
THE WORLD IS SPIRITUALLY AND MORALLY SICK AND TODAY, FROM THE PAGES OF THE WORD OF GOD,
WE WILL STUDY: THE SYMPTOMS OF THE SICKNESS, THE DIAGNOSIS OF THE SICKNESS, AND THE REMEDY
OF THE SICKNESS.
