• CONSIDER THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST

"CONSIDER THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST"
    ACTS 1:1-11

INTRO: Over the past several weeks we have been focusing on the FIRST ADVENT of Jesus Christ into the world during the CHRISTMAS SEASON. But the SECOND ADVENT of Jesus Christ into the world is just as real and, from the perspective of the Word of God, could happen at any moment. As Christians, we look backward to the FIRST COMING OF CHRIST with GREAT JOY. And we should look forward to the SECOND COMING OF CHRIST with JOY as well. This will be our study for today.

    "JESUS WAS BORN TO DIE"
    CHRIST'S BIRTH - LIFE – DEATH

INTRO: The Christmas season is the time to remember what all JESUS CHRIST HAS DONE FOR US BY COMING TO THE EARTH. This Christmas our theme has been that JESUS WAS BORN TO DIE. Today, to continue and support that theme, we are going to briefly consider THE BIRTH, THE LIFE AND THE DEATH of our Lord and show how it relates to His overall mission to provide SALVATION FOR THE ENTIRE WORLD.
NOTE: Our study of the BIRTH, THE LIFE AND THE DEATH OF CHRIST will come from look at the GOSPEL OF LUKE.

  • FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS

"FOR HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS"
    MATTHEW 1:18-25
    TEXT: VERSE 21

INTRO: As we get closer and closer to Christmas many events are going on and many thoughts are filling our minds with many things we have to do between now and then. This time of the year is normally very busy and sometimes I think it gets so busy that we forget what the season is really all about. Though this time of the year is filled with a myriad of activities, the real purpose is to focus on and honor Christ as we celebrate His INCARNATION. In celebrating Christ's INCARNATION, we do well to remember WHY HE CAME INTO THE WORLD. Matthew 1:21 teaches Jesus Christ came into the world to "SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS." Let's focus on that great truth today.

  • CHRIST CAME TO SEEK AND SAVE THOSE WHO ARE LOST

"CHRIST CAME TO SEEK AND SAVE THOSE WHO ARE LOST"
    LUKE 19:1-10
    TEXT: VERSE 10

INTRO: Our theme during this Christmas season is focused on the work of Christ that began with His incarnation. That is, He was "BORN TO DIE." Truly Jesus Christ came into this world, not to be placed in a manger, but to go to the cross to provide REDEMPTION FOR ALL MANKIND. Today we shall focus a "sub-theme" of the overall emphasis for this Christmas season and that is that CHRIST CAME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THOSE WHO ARE LOST. Indeed we should PRAISE THE LORD for that, but WHAT ALL DOES IT INVOLVE? Let's Consider.
OBSERVATION: The text before us speaks of the tax collector ZACCHAEUS having a great desire to see Jesus that he climbed up into a sycamore tree to get a good view of the Lord. The event ended by Jesus going to his house and ZACCHAEUS getting saved.

  • JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN TO DIE

"JESUS CHRIST WAS BORN TO DIE"
    ROMANS 5:1-11

INTRO: It is a true statement that from the moment we are born, we are in the process of dying. But while we are alive God has a plan and a purpose for each of us to fulfill and He works in us to perform that plan and purpose (Philippians 1:6 and 2:13). However, when we look upon the Lord Jesus Christ, we find that THE VERY REASON FOR HIS BIRTH WAS TO DIE...TO DIE FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD...TO DIE FOR YOUR SINS...TO DIE FOR MY SINS. WHAT A MISSION AND PURPOSE FOR HIS LIFE! FROM ETERNITY PAST JESUS KNEW THAT HE WOULD EVENTUALLY BE BORN ON EARTH WITH THE PURPOSE OF GOING TO THE CROSS TO DIE FOR ALL MANKIND. Today we shall study from the pages of scripture the very serious and significant concept that JESUS WAS BORN TO DIE FOR US ALL. But WHY WAS CHRIST BORN TO DIE UPON THE EARTH?

  • The Biblical Preparation For Celebrating Christmas

"THE BIBLICAL PREPARATION FOR CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS"
    MATTHEW 1:18-25; LIKE 2:1-20

INTRO: We have now entered the CHRISTMAS SEASON for 2018. All around the world Christians will be celebrating Christmas in various ways according to their traditions. Even within our own Country and right here within our own church, different people have different ways to celebrate Christmas. Some people put a lot into celebrating Christmas. Some people put very little into celebrating Christmas. Some people do not celebrate Christmas at all. But one thing for certain is that OUR CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS SHOULD BE CHRIST-CENTERED AND NOT SELF-CENTERED. HOW CAN WE HAVE A CHRIST-CENTERED CELEBRATION OF CHRISTMAS? It all has to do with WHERE WE PUT OUR FOCUS.

  • BE YE THANKFUL

    "BE YE THANKFUL"
    COLOSSIANS 1:12-14

INTRO: The THANKSGIVING SEASON is a GREAT time of year. And there are SO MANY THINGS for which we
can be thankful, particularly those of us who live in America. We can trace the THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY back to the days of the PILGRIMS, when they gave thanks unto God for His provision on their behalf. In fact, the FIRST
THANKSGIVING took place in 1621 with the PILGRIMS and the WAMPANOAG INDIANS, when over 100 people
attended. VENISON topped the menu and they ate for THREE CONSECUTIVE DAYS. The gathering was not
necessarily referred to as THANKSGIVING, but as a feast it was conducted regularly until 1863 when PRESIDENT
ABRAHAM LINCOLN OFFICIALLY DECLARED THANKSGIVING AS A NATIONAL HOLIDAY. So many times
the focus of our THANKSGIVING is on the physical, and it is right and important to do so. But today, I would like for us to FOCUS ON SPIRITUAL REASONS FOR GIVING THANKS. In doing so, we will look at the PRAYER OF THE
APOSTLE PAUL for the CHRISTIANS AT COLOSSEE.

  • A MEASURE OF FAITH

     "A MEASURE OF FAITH"

    ROMANS 12:1-8

    TEXT: VERSE 3

INTRO: Everything we have in the Christian life has been given to us by the GRACE OF GOD! That is taught numerous times throughout scripture. But, one verse that brings it all together is Romans 12:3. In that verse, we see it clearly presented that EVERY ELEMENT OF OUR SALVATION IS A GIFT OF GOD, AND THEREFORE, WE MUST REFUSE TO BE PROUD OVER WHAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST, AND HUMBLE OURSELVES BEFORE GOD IN A THANKFUL SPIRIT FOR ALL HE HAS GIVEN US. In short, God, by His grace, has given us a "MEASURE OF FAITH," in order to be saved and serve Him. Let's observe this rich text in the message today.

    "PRAYING FOR PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS"
    ACTS 12:1-19

INTRO: Christians remain one of the MOST PERSECUTED RELIGIOUS GROUPS in the world. In fact, it has been said that MORE CHRISTIANS ARE BEING PERSECUTED AROUND THE WORLD NOW THAN EVER BEFORE IN HISTORY. Recently I spoke with Todd Nettleton, with the VOICE OF THE MARTYRS, who confirmed this statement. Christians throughout the world continue to risk imprisonment, loss of home and assets, torture, beheadings, rape and even death just because of their FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST. TRENDS show that in CERTAIN AFRICAN NATIONS persecution is INTENSIFYING, particularly among women. Every day NEW REPORTS OF CHRISTIANS BEING PERSECUTED ARE REPORTED. The OPEN DOORS WORLD WATCH organization has reported that EACH MONTH:
    ● 255 Christians are killed
    ● 104 Christians are abducted
    ● 180 Christian women are sexually harassed
    ● 66 Christian churches are attacked
    ● 160 Christians are detained without a trial and imprisoned

  • THE BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF VOTING

    "THE BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF VOTING"
    DEUTERONOMY 1:1-18; ROMANS 13:1-6

INTRO: As citizens of the United States of America, we have the privilege and responsibility of voting for candidates and issues relating to the government of our nation. AS CHRISTIAN CITIZENS, WE SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN VOTING  AS IT GIVES US THE OPPORTUNITY TO BRING THE BIBLICAL INFLUENCE INTO THE DIRECTION OF THE
COUNTRY. Voting is very serious and truly is a very important action for every Christian to perform. DO YOU VOTE?
Consider some practical benefits of the Christian Vote:
    1) The Christian Vote enables us to represent Christ's values in the direction of the nation.
    2) The Christian Vote is a witness for the principles of Christ.
    3) The Christian Vote is the way to bring the Word of God to bear in the culture.
    4) The Christian Vote is the VOICE OF GOD in the direction of the nation.
    5) The Christian Vote is the way to put our convictions into policies.
THE FAILURE TO VOTE IS NEGLECTING TO FULFILL OUR ROLE AS CHRIST'S AMBASSADORS. So, DOES GOD
WANT US TO VOTE? The answer is YES which is why we are going to consider THE BIBLICAL CONCEPT OF
    VOTING in today's message.

     "GRACE GIVING"

    2 CORINTHIANS 8:1-15

INTRO: What do you think of when you hear a preacher speak on GIVING? If you know in advance that he is going to speak on GIVING do you suddenly decide to go visit Aunt Sally? When you think of GIVING do you think of AN OBLIGATION, A COMMAND, OR AN EXPECTATION? IF YOU DO, THEN YOU HAVE A MISUNDERSTANDING OF BIBLICAL GIVING TO THE LORD! From GOD'S POINT OF VIEW, WHICH SHOULD BE OUR POINT OF VIEW TOO, GIVING IS A GIFT OF GRACE THAT GOD HAS GIVEN TO US! Now you may say, I never thought of it like that. Well then, that means that you have NEVER REALLY STUDIED THE CONCEPT OF BIBLICAL GIVING. Today we are going to be talking about GRACE GIVING which I pray will give each of us a completely new and different attitude toward giving, if we tend to have a bad attitude toward sermons on giving and the act of giving to the Lord.

INTRO: As BORN AGAIN CHRISTIANS, we are a part of the GREATEST ENTITY ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I am speaking of the CHURCH, THE BODY OF CHRIST. And as GREAT AS THE CHURCH IS, I believe that many of us do not UNDERSTAND or APPRECIATE how GREAT THE CHURCH is in the mind of the Lord Jesus! In the passage before us today, we have some teaching about the CHURCH that really comes to us as a WARNING. In fact, there are THREE WARNINGS IN HEBREWS 10:25 THAT EACH OF US NEED TO CONSIDER SERIOUSLY. It is quite possible that some of you nave NEVER or have SELDOM considered these warnings, which is why we shall look at them today. I PRAY WE WILL ALL HAVE AN OPEN HEART TO WHAT CHRIST IS SAYING TO US THROUGH THIS TEXT and then that EACH OF US WILL RESPOND ACCORDINGLY TO THE WILL OF GOD.

"THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH, OUR SONG, AND OUR SALVATION"
    SCRIPTURE: PSALM 118:1-29
    TEXT: PSALM 118:14

INTRO: Psalm 103:2 says: "BLESS THE LORD, O MY SOUL, AND FORGET NOT ALL HIS BENEFITS." In reality, that is a CLEAR COMMAND OF SCRIPTURE, but nevertheless, many of us who know the Lord SO OFTEN FAIL TO FOCUS ON HIS BENEFITS. WOULD YOU AGREE? When we focus on THE LORD'S BENEFITS, WE WILL BE GREATLY ENCOURAGED. But when we do not focus on THE LORD'S BENEFITS, WE WILL TEND TO BE DISCOURAGED. Satan loves that, by the way! So, to focus on the LORD'S BENEFITS TO US is a GREAT SPIRITUAL CONCEPT TO APPLY TO OUR LIVES. In Psalm 118 we have MANY of the BENEFITS OF THE LORD LISTED. Verse 14 gives us three of them that we will focus on this morning. As we do, let's give God the THANKS AND PRAISE HE DESERVES for these great benefits He pours out upon us each day that we might be enabled to serve and enjoy him more and more.

    TEXT: PSALM 27:4

INTRO: What do you think of when you hear the word "BEAUTY?" A Person? A Place? An Item? A Concept? A Piece of Clothing? I suppose all of those words could describe that which is BEAUTIFUL. According to the WEBSTERS COLLEGE DICTIONARY, the word "BEAUTY" means: "THE QUALITY PRESENT IN A PERSON OR THING THAT GIVES INTENSE PLEASURE OR DEEP SATISFICTION TO THE MIND OR THE SENSES." I suppose that is true and it certainly can be applied to many people and things in life. But, in our text, we are told that OUR LORD HAS BEAUTY. Have you ever considered that? Well, today we shall "ATTEMPT" to consider the BEAUTY OF THE LORD and I want to emphasize the word "ATTEMPT" because, to be honest, GOD IS SO BEAUTIFUL THAT WE CANNOT, IN HUMAN WORDS OR EXPRESSIONS, TAP THE SERVICE OF HIS GREAT BEAUTY. But let's consider HIS BEAUTY anyhow and see how He teaches us today.

"A BIBLICAL CHALLENGE TO GODLY MEN"
    1 CORINTHIANS 16:13,14
    (A FATHER'S DAY SERMON)

INTRO: I have a question to all men under the sound of my voice today. "DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR SELF A GODLY MAN?" Now let me attempt to qualify and simplify the question. A Godly man is one who HAS TRUSTED CHRIST AS PERSONAL SAVIOR AND WHO DESIRES TO TRUST, OBEY AND SERVE GOD EVERY MOMENT OF HIS LIFE. Does that describe you? If it does, PRAISE THE LORD and you are encouraged to continue in the way you are going. If it does not, YOU CAN BECOME A GODLY MAN TODAY. The Bible is loaded with instructions for one who wants to be a GODLY MAN. One of the passages that gives us some insight is found in 1 Corinthians 16:13,14 that we shall study today. In this passage, we see FIVE CHALLENGES FOR ALL MEN WHO DESIRE TO BE GODLY. Let's Observe.

INTRO: For years we have heard people talk about REVIVAL. Preachers preach about revival. Writers write about revival. Teachers teach about revival. Prayers Warriors pray for revival. BUT WHAT IS REVIVAL? WHY IS REVIVAL NECESSARY? WHO NEEDS REVIVAL? HOW DOES REVIVAL COME? These are just a few questions that must be considered when contemplating BIBLICAL REVIVAL. So, today we are going to begin a series entitled: "BIBLICAL REVIVAL - WHAT IS IT?" This is a series that both DESERVES and DEMANDS our attention because REVIVAL IS A SUBJECT THAT HAS BEEN AND STILL IS NECESSARY IN THE LIVES OF ALL OF GOD'S CHILDREN (THOSE WHO GENUINELY HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD) SINCE THE DAYS OF ADAM AND EVE. As we walk through this series the question for each for us to ask is: "TO WHAT DEGREE IS REVIVAL NEEDED IN MY LIFE."

  • THE GOOD WORK OF GOD IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER

"THE GOOD WORK OF GOD IN THE LIFE OF THE BELIEVER"

    PHILIPPIANS 1:1-7

INTRO: In Genesis chapter one, as God performed the various acts of creation, it is stated over and over again that what God did was good. Upon the creation of Adam, the Bible not only says it was good, but that it was VERY GOOD! Without a doubt we can say that EVERY WORK OF GOD IS GOOD because God does not fail, God does not mess up and God does not give up! This is also true in the LIFE OF THE BELIEVER. WHAT GOD BEGINS IN US AT THE POINT OF SALVATION HE WILL COMPLETE AND NOTHING CAN OR WILL STOP HIM AND THAT WORK WILL BE VERY GOOD! This is the teaching of Philippians 1:6 that we shall study today.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

NOTE: Philippians 1:6 begins with the phrase "BEING CONFIDENT" which means to "BE PERSUADED" and have "DEFINITE ASSURANCE" that what God begins HE WILL SEE TO THE END AND COMPLETE! In this text, it means that what God has started in the life of each believer God will finish.
